Welcome to the homepage of St Oswald's, the parish church of Tile Hill in Coventry - covering Tile Hill North, Tanyard Farm, Banners Brook and Bannerbrook Park.
We are a traditional Anglican church and have been serving the parish of Tile Hill for over 50 years (2007 was our Golden Anniversary).
Thank you for visiting our website and please feel free to visit our church if you are ever in Tile Hill.
27th Nov 2011 Fr Nick has written a special message commenting on the recent protests at St Paul's Cathedral and around the world. Follow the 'Comment' button on the left.
9th Oct 2011 Major panic this morning. Fr Nick seems to be missing, probably still in mourning after the England/France game. If any of you thought we looked a bit harrassed it was because at 9.58 we still didn't have a priest. It seems that Fr John had got stuck in a queue of traffic on the M42, which turned out to be lots of people going to a Car Boot Sale. (You couldn't make this up.) Huge thanks to Fr John for the service and for the kind words about our church. Next week Bishop Christopher will be joining us and, since he won't be using the M42, we anticipate rather less panic. Just as long as his bike doesn't get a puncture.
2nd Oct 2011 The Harvest Auction raised £336 for the Coventry Food Bank. Thanks to all who helped, all who bought and especialy to Mike for stepping in as co-auctioneer.
18th Sept 2011 The proceeds from our Harvest Auction, this year will be going to the Food Bank. Big thanks to Jo and John who visited St Oswald's today to tell us about the work of the Coventry Food Bank. So far this year they have provied 3,000 three-day food packages to people struggling to feed themselves or their families. If you would like to know more about this important project you can visit http://www.trusselltrust.org/foodbank-projects. If you would like to help by volunteering or donating you can email ccfoodbank@mosaicchurch.co.uk.
11th Sept 2011 WE'RE BACK. Sincerest apologies to regular visitors who have missed us, but we are now back on the web and here to stay.
We have two exciting new projects starting up very soon. The Toddler's Service starts at 9.15am on Tuesday 13th September and will take place on the second Tuesday of every month. On the same day, at 7.00pm, our new Men's Group has its first meeting at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on Broad Lane (because the Church doesn't have a bar). we look forward to meet you there. And just so the ladies don't feel left out we will remind you that the Women's Evening Fellowship still meets on the third Tuesday of every month in the Church Hall.
Another Summer Fair has come and gone. Although the weather stayed dry for us the turn-out was a little disappointing, but you can find a few pictures over on the Events page.
It is with sadness that we report the passing of Revd Peter Bennett who was the first Vicar of Tile Hill. Many members of our congregation have fond memories of Fr Peter and we offer our condolences to his family.
On Friday 22nd April St Oswald's joined with the members of Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church and Limbrick Wood Baptist Church for our regular act of witness to the people of Tile Hill. The Cross was carried through the Parish, pausing for reflections on the Stations of the Cross along the Way. Arriving at St Oswald's, we met with members of other local churches who had carried their own crosses to join with us in a Good Friday service on the green. This annual meeting serves to remind us all that this time of year is not just about two days off work and a lot of chocolate, but about the death and ressurection of Jesus Christ. And in a time when we are constantly reminded of the divisions between the denominations and even the divisions within the Church of England, today has reminded us that in the end we are all united in one faith and one belief.

We are now approaching Holy Week and Easter. Probably the most important period in the Church year and the time of some of the most moving and also the most joyous services to mark the Passion and the Resurrection of Our Lord. We begin with Palm Sunday on 17th April, have a look at the "Services" page to see the schedule of services for the week and please join us at this very special time.
The interregnum is now officially over. On Monday 29th November 2010, Father Nicholas Leggett was collated, inducted and installed as the new Vicar of Tile Hill.
Grateful thanks are due to the many priests who have joined us to lead our worship over the last fourteen months (I think we just about got them all trained). There was a phone vote after every service when the congregation let us know who to bring back and who to get rid of, but I think it was probably rigged, because the Area Dean kept coming back (even after he threw a pineapple at a Churchwarden during Harvest Evensong).
We must also thank Father Kit Dunkley for his invaluable support, joining us nearly every Wednesday for fourteen months, and of course Fr Steve Burch our Area Dean
At the risk of this starting to sound like an Oscar acceptance speech, we must also thank the Bishop of Coventry, Rt Revd Christopher Cocksworth, and the Bishop of Ebbsfleet, Rt Revd Andrew Burnham, along with Archdeacon Ian Watson. We have valued both their practical help and their prayers.
Here at St Oswald's we are grateful to our Lay Pastor, Stan Hurrell, for regulary leading Communion by Extension services on Tuesday evenings and maintaining a much-needed continuity. Equally invaluable was our wonderful Sacristan, Carol Durham who, along with St Oswald's frankly magnificent team of servers, managed to keep control of all those unruly priests.
We are grateful that our congregation has stayed loyal for these fourteen months, coming back week after week, never quite sure what they were going to get or even if there was going to be a priest (just twice, and one of those got snowed in).
St Oswald's would not have survived the last fourteen months without it's administrator, Anne Gregory. Just the single job of booking a priest for every single service in that time would have reduced most of us to 'headless chicken' level, especially when we were left at 10 hours before Midnight Mass with no priest because the one we booked had gone down ill - but Anne begged, pleaded and eventually threatened until some poor Vicar agreed to release his Curate for the night. Anne has been the rock on which St Oswald's has stood during this interregnum - we could not have done it without her.
NOW AVAILABLE: Sunday Morning Creche. See 'About St Oswald's' for details.
In October 2006 we were proud to take part in creating the Basil Spence sculpture, you can find out about this project using the 'Spence' link on the left hand side.
